VSKYLABS VSL 510X-VLJ INTRODUCTION

The VSKYLABS VSL-510X is a highly-defined Very Light Jet (VLJ) simulation, developed and engineered using the Cessna Citation Mustang (Model 510) as a core reference for a typical, modern VLJ aircraft. The main purpose of the VSL-510X add-on is to introduce the Very-Light-Jet aircraft category and to allow exploring its operational envelope in X-Plane Flight Simulator, stretching it to its out-of-the-box limits.

DEVELOPMENT DISCLAIMERThe VSKYLABS VSL-510X is an independent VSKYLABS development project which is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Cessna, Citation, or Textron Aviation Inc. It was not developed as an official rendition of the Citation Mustang, nor claimed to be so.

The VLJ Category

The term Very Light Jet (VLJ) describes a class of small business jets that typically seat four to eight people and are often certified for single-pilot operations.

These aircraft emerged with the goal of reducing operating costs and enabling jet access to smaller airports and shorter runways, essentially allowing more flexible, point-to-point business or personal travel.

The REAL-WORLD Cessna Citation Mustang

*The Mustang aircraft served as a core reference for a typical, modern VLJ aircraft, in the development of the VSKYLABS VSL 510X. Please note that the VSKYLBS VSL 510X-VLJ is not a direct replica of the Citation Mustang. Various differences in appearance and operations may be noticeable.

The Cessna Citation Mustang (Model 510) is a prime example of the VLJ concept: manufactured by Cessna Aircraft Company in the United States, it first flew on April 23, 2005, and entered service in 2006.

In its standard configuration it carries four passengers in the rear cabin, a toilet, and two-pilot/one-pilot certified cockpit seating.

Designed to bring jet performance into a more accessible segment, the Mustang offered the advantages of twin aft-mounted turbofans, a stand-up cabin, and the ability to be operated by a single pilot, features that made it attractive both for owner-pilots and small charter operations.

Although production ended in 2017 after 479 units were built, the Mustang remains a useful reference platform for high-fidelity simulation and systems-logic modelling.

VSKYLABS VSL 510X-VLJ MAIN FEATURES:

  • Highly-Defined Very Light Jet (VLJ) simulation:
    • Aircraft systems, performance and handling qualities and avionics are derived from the Model-510 design as a typical VLJ aircraft.
  • Highly Defined Flight Dynamics, tested by real-world high-performance Jet Aircraft pilots.
  • Comprehensive systems:
    • Systems architecture derived from the Model-510 VLJ.
    • Powerplants & FADEC, pressurization, lighting, landing-gears, flight controls, fuel system, fire protection, electrical, ice and rain protection, master warning system, oxygen and more.
  • Comprehensive Avionics:
    • LR X1000 3-screens layout: Pilot, Copilot, MFD.
    • GFC 710 AFCS Control Unit-type
    • GCU 476 (479 pop-out).
    • Fully featured, comprehensive autopilot.
  • Plausible, comprehensive MFD-EICAS display based on X-Plane LR X1000 with customized MFD/CAS (Crew Alert System), allows operational following Model-510 procedures within reasonable margins.
  • Two aircraft included:
    • VSL 510X-VLJ 'Production aircraft': derived from a pure Mustang-Class VLJ reference.
    • VSL 510X-ER 'Prototype aircraft': extended range variant equipped with two 400 lbs wing-tip fuel tanks, hybrid cockpit configuration, experimental equipment.
  • Fully compatible with X-Plane 12 native Ground Handling features (GPU, Chocks, other services).
  • Full VR compatibility (optimized for 2-d).
  • Comprehensive FMOD sounds.
  • Built-In Avitab compatibility (avitab plugin not included).
  • VSKYLABS 'Cockpit-Builders Heaven': Allows assigning all aircraft switches, knobs, levers, and interactions in a designated, uncluttered section in the X-Plane 12 assignment screen (see sample in image below).
  • VSKYLABS 'Gesture Gate' Throttle Cutoff mechanism: The 510X features a simulated cut-off detent that replicates the mechanical gate of the real aircraft. The system detects a deliberate throttle movement pattern meaning that NO extra buttons or hardware assignments are required.
